Baby Shower: Vintage Hot Air Balloon Theme

Jessica from Jessicakes (with the help of her sister-in-law Kim) designed a beautiful baby shower for a family member. I love the colors of this shower and the detail of the napkins matching the cake.  So cool.
I love how the cake turned out. Want to make your own? She’ll show you how!
I love the decorations.  Jessica uses book pages on the hot air balloon to add to the vintage feel of the shower!

Recipe: Marshmallow Oreo Pops

I love eating Oreos!

In fact the whole family loves them. I had to figure out a way to make them last for the whole Spa Party without breaking the bank!  Marshmallow Oreo Pops to the rescue…they make the perfect party food!

Recipe: Marshmallow Oreo Pops

Large Bag of Marshmallows

1 cup Chocolate Chips (I used dark chocolate)

Oreo Cookies (I used 1 cookie for 5 marshmallows)

Lollipop Sticks

Start off with crushing your Oreos; you can use a food processor to get them to a fine crumb, or put them in a plastic bag and crush with a rolling pin.
Melt the chocolate chips in your microwave for 1 minute intervals stirring in between so the chocolate doesn’t burn. My chocolate melted in 2 minutes.

Take the marshmallow and dip it in the chocolate then in the Oreo crumbs. I only dipped the lower portion of the marshmallow. Experiment (I mean eat) and decide how much of the marshmallow you like  covered in the chocolate and cookie.

I put the covered marshmallow on a plate, then stuck a lollipop stick in a little chocolate on one end and pushed it in the marshmallow. Is it necessary to put it on a stick? Nope!!! But it looks way cool!

Enjoy!

Mother Daughter Fancy Nancy Spa Party

I am so excited to share my Mother Daughter Fancy Nancy Spa Party with you!! We LOVE Fancy Nancy at my house. If you have never read the books you are missing out on fabulous vocabulary and fancy fun.
I based my party on the book, Ooh La La! It’s Beauty Day.  Buy the book or borrow it from the library to make your own party!
In the book, they eat healthy spa food. This is one spot that I didn’t want to follow the book. Mostly because I love sweets!
I made cupcakes and cake pops. The Oreo Marshmallow Pops are divine.  I will post on Wednesday how to make them.  Is it cheating to put frosting on an Oreo and call it mine? I think not!
The Pretzel Bites by Get Off Your Butt and Bake stole the show. They were so good.  Again I went the easy route and used Otis Spunkmeyer ‘s Bake Up Brownie Rounds. I cut the frozen punk into 1/3 pieces and cooked them in the mini cupcake pan to keep them round. I also reduced the cooking time down from 14 minutes to 6-7 minutes.
I used chalk board vinyl on the jars so none of the girls would mix-up drinks and filled them with pink lemonade!
As much fun as it was to eat yummy food, we also had a blast with the spa activities!
The face mask ( the recipe is in the book) was gooey but the girls loved to put it on the moms and see us squirm!
Painting nails is always a big hit with the girls! Some of the little girls wanted glitter toes so we did the glitter nails outside. It was is messy, but the girls were so happy!
In the book, Nancy gives her mom a headband; I decided to make this part of the party. It was the favorite of the older girls. We decorated the headbands with extra craft supplies everyone had on hand.
I wanted to have fancy glasses on hand for pictures. I used extra scrapbook paper and cut them out with my Silhouette (Mask_0779). I also added the feather and skewer with a hot glue gun.
I honestly did the whole party for under $20 (for 10 people!)
Things that I had on hand: paper, décor, Fancy Nancy Dolls, chalk board vinyl, mason jars, craft supplies for headbands, cake mix, pink lemonade mix, face mask supplies, nail polish, glitter, skewers, and feathers.
I did shop at the dollar store for the table cloth, paper plates, and headbands 4 for $1. At Hobby Lobby I bought the straws 2.99 (But I used 40% off coupon), and I bought the fabric to tie around the drinks.
I spent the most money on food. I needed the Oreos, marshmallows, and Rhodes Rolls. All the rest of the food I had on hand so that is why I made them part of this party!  I wanted this party to be about spending time with my girls.
This party was so much fun. I hope you enjoyed it, too! I would love to hear from you if you throw your own Fancy Nancy Party!

DIY Spinner Prize Wheel by Doodle Craft

A simple craft that will make you a Rockstar!

Any kid (or adult for that matter) that has watched The Wheel of Fortune  has longed to spin that giant prize wheel.
When we went to the fair last summer,  there were booths set up with smaller, but equally
as awesome prize wheels that the kids got to spin...once.
I vowed to remedy that.

Say hello to the…

DIY Spinner Prize Wheel

So you'll need a lazy susan from Ikea ($7.99) and a board slightly larger than the spinner.
Shhh, don't tell anyone that it's so easy! Peel that rubbery plastic ring off the bottom of the spinner...

Okay, on my practice board, I got a step ahead of myself and painted before I drilled in the dowel.
So, pace yourself.
Get a drill bit, and a dowel the same size.
Don't drill all the way through the board...insert and glue in dowel.
I used some wood filler to sort of grout it in place.
Then I had to paint again...you'll only have to paint once!

Next paint!

Paint them up any way you like!
I just used a light spray primer and then a coat of color!
Quite a bit of the top gets covered,
so you don't have to be so thorough.

Next:
Dry Erase vinyl surface...I got it at Hobby Lobby
($7.99 without 40% off coupon)

I hand cut out a bunch of triangles for my first go...
for the next 6 I made, I used the silhouette and this png triangle.

Then peel off the backing and adhere your triangles around the spinner.
Note, they don't line up exactly...but who cares?

Next, some tiny nails (1" long) tapped in between every triangle.
Leave them up high enough to hit the zip tie...

Glue the wheel onto your board with this fab glue…allow it to dry.

Take a zip tie and scrunch it on the dowel.
I also painted a wooden ball (with a flat surface) for the center...I used craft paint,
but it finishes it off nicely.

Use a dry erase marker to write your
hearts desires onto the triangles!

Fun ideas:
Chores
(I did this with one video game space...so far no one
got the freebie, but they are willing to risk it)
Things to do this summer
30 second activities (run, jump, crawl...)
Church lessons
Birthday parties
Carnivals
Fundraisers

Every event that I've taken this wheel, I've gotten multiple orders!

My kids were thrilled to help out!
I think they each spun the wheel 100 times!

Erases easily.
I wipe with a lightly windex spritzed paper towel.
Wipe from the center to the edge.  Sometimes the
thin plastic sheet on the top of the vinyl starts to peel...
no problems so far, but they will be easy to
replace when they are too worn.

Ultimate Prize wheel!

If you don't want to rush to the store to  gather supplies right now...you haven't seen enough pictures!

In closing, if you make this, you will be the envy of your friends, the coolest to your kids and they will actually want to hang out with you...
cuz you're a totally awesome rockstar!

I am blown away by this fun project Natalie! I love all of the different events you can use this for…and dry erase vinyl?…Genius!
