I made this niffy silverware holder because dinner at my house is chaos. My children always miscount and don’t bring enough silverware to the table. I feel like I am always hoppy up to grab a napkin or spoon for someone. This silverware holder has everything you need in it. I am so excited to use it. I think that it would also be great for a fun dinner party served buffet style.
What you need to make 4:
3/4 yard of the gray
1/2 yard of the yellow (I had a lot leftover)
Wonder Under (the sewing one)
Sewing Machine
Coordinating Thread
Instructions to make 1:
Cut out (2) 11”x 6”fabric for the back
(2) 8”x 6” fabric for the middle
(2) 6”x6” fabric for the front
Sew the coordinating sizes right sides together on 3 sides. Use a 1/2 seam allowance.
Clipped the 2 corners that you sewed all the way. Iron on Wonder Under close to your seams and a 1/2 inch up from the bottom.
Take off the paper on the Wonder Under. Flip your fabric with the design on the outside. push out your corners. Iron the material.
Next zig zag the bottom of all 3 pieces. On the front one and middle one top stitch 1/4 inch seam on the top of each. Place the front one 1/2” past the end of the middle fabric. I decided on mine to add pockets to hold the silverware. Mine are sewn 1 1/2” in from each side. It makes the middle pocket a little bigger than the other two because my knife will go in that pocket and it has a thicker handle. When you pick your measurements be sure to account for the 1/4” top stich that you will do at the very end around the whole thing.
Now to put the whole thing together. Fold 1/2 inch of the zig zag edges so that they will meet in the middle of the pouch and no one will ever see them. Pin the two pieces together lining them up at the bottom.
Last step top stich a 1/4” around the whole thing. It will be very thick in some places. I had to coax my machine, but it made it!
Love how they turned out!
